"Hard work that matters"- Dipu Giri (An Inspirer)
Here's a contrast, we present between the past and present life of Dipu Giri and a short journal of his life focusing on how hard work turns out to be paid and his achievements :
Past life Present life Name: Dipu Giri Name: Dipu Giri Age: 12 years Age: 37 year Occupation: A laborer Occupation: Owns a well-established Institute called "Global Touch". Residence: India Residence: Pokhara,Nepal
It was the hardest time for Dipu Giri, a young boy of 12 with all the responsibility to look after each and every basic needs of his family. He was the eldest son in his family along 5 other siblings. Born to a middle class family, Dipus' father used to work in an office which was related to production of electricity. His father was the single earner and his family was dependent on his earning. But after the sudden demise of his father in an accident; Dipu was overloaded with all the responsibilities. The office where his father worked gave a compensation of eight thousand rupees only for the cremation. All there hope ended as they didn't have any other source for their income. At this tender age, one has no idea of pain and sufferings but he had to go through all that. School was never a fun for him; he had to manage his time for his studies and had to start working after school immediately. He had a different story like many other people. Only a few prove out to be a jewel and Dipu Giri is among that personality.
To ease the problem and get some income for his family, he started working as a laborer. He got the news that a new building was going to be constructed on the same place where his father previously worked, so he asked his mother to let him work. His mother was also helpless and with her eyes full of tears, all she could do was to let him work. Though it was the time for a kid like him to go to school, play with his friends but instead he had bricks in his hands and responsibility of whole family. After working hard all evening, he used to earn Rs. 35 which was not sufficient and sometimes they even had to go bed without food.
When asked how he managed things in his hard days, he said,"During those days of crisis, I used to feel helpless seeing the pain of my siblings and used to cry alone without letting them know about it. I would be more than happy if I could provide a little happiness to my family. I used to give hope to my mother when she felt low and ask her not to worry until I was there."
After certain time, he started a catering service but it was only limited for Bengali marriage where he made a contract that they would provide their services like washing and looking after their utensils. When asked why Bengali only then he replied, "As I am Hindu so I decided to start a catering service only for Bengali people."
When things were going a bit better, he had to bear the loss of his mother also. He was now the single parent to his siblings. He used to be busy at work so he couldn't give proper time to them so he brought them to Pokhara and handed them to his relatives to look after them and again returned India. After returning back to India, he continued his studies along with his work. Later, he even passed the examination in Board of School and he started giving tuition classes. It was a turning point for him as now he was a master from a laborer. Though his problem didn't end as when he was studying I.Sc, he wasn't able to manage adequate money for the payment of fees which was Rs.400. The date for the payment had reached its last date and if he didn't clear the sum, his studies would have been of no use as he wouldn't be able to appear his exams. He was in pressure and didn’t have a hope. He decided to take help of his friend Ajit Agrawal who used to stay in the same location. He then asked for help and Ajit provided him Rs. 400 with a promise that he had to return it and time doesn't matter even if it was ten years. He then appeared his exams and continued his studies further. He then completed his M.B.A, and then he became more qualified with those certificates which he earned by his determination and hard work. Then he worked in a company named "Guest Trainer" which was related for production of photocopy. After some time, he left that job and went to Guhati where he worked as a business executive in a private company. Finally, after working for years, he lately realized that he was missing something in his life, his motherland "Nepal" and he decided to return back to Nepal.
When he returned back to Nepal, he initially worked in an unauthorized organization for some months, and then he worked in a consultancy relating to abroad study for 9 months. He gained a lot of experience there and felt that he could himself own a consultancy for abroad study. He believes in the proverb, "When There Is Will, There's A Way." There was a "law form" in Putalisadak, which was run by Badhri Bishal Gimire and they decided to partition the single room to equal half's. Then he started his institute "Global Touch". After that he never had to look back again. He gives full credit of his success to his Institute "Global Touch."
When asked during the starting period, how was he able to manage things in the institute, he replied, " It wasn't that easy to send students for abroad study at that time as it is today. My first students were Sanjay and Shantaraj Gurung and I still remember, going to their respective hotel to teach them and if I got late then I would spent the night in that hotel. I now feel quite proud that 500 students were able to go for abroad study from my institute." It isn't that hard for him to send students abroad as he was selected as the representor of Western Asia for Abroad Study in College of Central London some years back. Students not only from Nepal and SAARC nations but students from other countries from Asia like Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong came for counseling for abroad study in UK.
Dipu Giri gained a lot of experience from all those years and he says that he had noticed that only a few about 10% students from Nepal go for abroad study and they aren't able to get sufficient environment. But he continued that they have a professional deal for students going for abroad study for other countries. He feels satisfied with his work and he said that he wants to try his hands in other fields.
He is truly a gem. He handled all his responsibilities, as after his mother death, he was the only parent to his siblings. He took care of their necessities, studies as well as marriage. He gifted a house in Pokhara to his brother and handled all the responsibility in the marriage of his sister. He is also a social worker and has donated a lot for social causes.
When asked about his further plan, he replied, "I am planning to start other business besides this institute but I haven't yet decided what it would be. I have certain plans in my mind and I will surely work on it if time favored me." He said that he want to focus on the necessities of the old people. Though being rich, they might not be able to get adequate facilities and services so he wants to open an office which would provide them those needed service and from the income generated from that office he wants to provide these service to the poor old people free of cost. He lastly concluded that if he started a different business, he would let everyone know about it.
Despite of all hurdles he proved himself and now he has a business of his own. It's all his hard work that has been paid and we solute him for that. By: Tribhuwan Poudel / Richa Gurung(Pokharacity.com)
