GaiJatra festival is celebrated in different parts of the country including Pokhara Valley. It is an important cultural festival of Nepali society. It is a jatra started with the Newar culture. Gai Jatra is also known as an opportunity to satire in Nepali society. In this festival, the Newar community takes the form of a cow in memory of the ancestors and roams the toltol. Bhajan kirtan is also performed on this day. According to Nepal Sambat, this jatra falls on the day after Gunlaga Paru or Bhadra Shukla Pratipada i.e. Janai Purnima. This festival, which has religious, cultural and historical significance, is celebrated in different places of newar community.
